Talk Triggers

9:45 – 11:00 AM | with Jay Baer

The best way to grow any business is for your customers to grow it for you. But that only occurs if you deliver a customer experience that creates conversations. Word of mouth influences 50% of all purchases, but we too often take this for granted. We just assume that our customers will talk about us. But they won’t, unless you give them a story to tell.

In this interactive presentation filled with examples and research, Jay teaches audiences how to create a unique story for their business; a tale that will turn their customers into their most effective sales and marketing advantage. This session will create real change among attendees. It alters the way you will think about the intersection of customer experience, marketing, sales, and operations, yielding big growth and enhanced cooperation.

Audiences will:

  • Learn how to grow their business with word of mouth
  • Discover why customers talk, and why they remain silent
  • Learn the definition of a Talk Trigger (an unconventional, operational choice that creates conversation)
  • Discover the 4 Requirements of a Talk Trigger
  • Learn the different types/categories of Talk Triggers
  • Be entertained and inspired by relevant, and customized examples and case studies

Seven Safety Life Lessons: How to nuture an actively caring for people culture

8:30 – 10:15 AM | with Scott Gellar

After studying, teaching, and researching psychology for more than 50 years, Scott came to realize the utmost value of seven evidence-based life lessons people need to practice daily. If practiced routinely and extensively, the seven safety/life lessons elucidated in these manuals and reviewed here would do more than prevent workplace injuries. Human welfare would be improved by more interpersonal diplomacy and civility, win-win collaboration, enhanced work productivity, and life satisfaction.

The first four lessons reflect the behavioral science principles of positive reinforcement, observational learning, and behavior-based feedback. The subsequent three lessons are derived from humanism. Thus, the academic label for these evidence-based lessons is humanistic behaviorism. We call it “Actively Caring for People” (AC4P).

Lesson 1. Employ More Positive Consequences
Lesson 2. Benefit from Observational Learning
Lesson 3. Become a Behavior-Based Feedback Coach
Lesson 4. Use More Supportive than Corrective Feedback
Lesson 5. Embrace and Practice Empathy
Lesson 6. Manage Behavior and Lead People
Lesson 7. Progress from Self-Actualization to Self-Transcendence

E. Scott Geller, Alumni Distinguished Professor at Virginia Tech for 50 years, is also Senior Partner of Safety Performance Solutions. He has authored more than 300 research articles, 40 books, and 70 book chapters addressing the application of psychological science to improve human welfare and life satisfaction on a large scale.

Owning Your Next Adventure

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM | With Jim Fitts

You have devoted years to building a successful business, and ensuring it’s continuation beyond your ownership will be a key measure of your success. But have you thought about the personal and family issues that come from being a ‘former business owner’? Will you regret selling the company? Will the dynamics with your spouse and family change? Will you need a new outlet for your entrepreneurial energy?

The answers are Yes, and owners who don’t anticipate the personal upheaval of a business sale will struggle. What should be a joyous and prosperous time can be marked by anxiety and indecision. But it doesn’t have to be that way. This session will redefine the sale of your business as a beginning, not an end. You will learn about the impact the sale will have on you, your spouse and your family. And most importantly, it will provide useful ideas and questions to consider so your personal and family’s interests are front and center as you move through a transition of ownership. Don’t leave the final decades of your life to chance: plan for their success like you planned the success of your business!

Following Jim’s presentation, we will have an Interactive Business Solutions panel that will offer business owners additional support for their business.

Jim Fitts has been assessing business and personal financial positions for over 40 years, and advises family owned businesses on ownership and management succession. He also consults with families on wealth transfer strategies, generational wealth education, family governance, and retirement plan distributions. In addition to family business transition planning, Jim’s areas of special expertise include financial, retirement, estate, tax and charitable gift planning; investment counseling; and portfolio design. He is the co-author of Your Next Adventure: Planning For Life After The Sale Of Your Business. Jim is an honors graduate of Tufts University. He served 14 years in the US Coast Guard Reserve and is a Life Member of the Reserve Officers Association of America. Jim serves in leadership positions on several non-profit boards centered on youth education and development, and wildlife conservation.

Building Championship Mindsets

8:45 – 10:00 AM | with Dr. Amber Selking

By definition, champions are outliers – they are willing to do the things others are not willing to do, which leads to results that exceed those with the normal bell curve. Learning to think right is the first step to becoming a champion in everything you do, and in this presentation, attendees will leave with a deep understanding of how thoughts impact performance and strategies to manage their thoughts.

As a corporate human resource professional and former Division I college soccer player at the University of Notre Dame, where she graduated magna cum laude, Dr. Selking understands the mental toughness it takes to be successful in work, sport, and life. With an expertise in human performance and sport psychology, Amber leverages her former athletic and corporate business experiences to challenge others’ current ways of thinking and unlock their personal potential for achievement. She currently serves as the Mental Performance Consultant to Head Coach Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame Football team, the Director of People Performance at Lippert Components, Inc., and as an adjunct professor of Strategic Human Resource Management in Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. She founded the Selking Performance Group, where their mission is to help individuals, sports teams, and business organizations unleash performance excellence by tapping into the power of Mindset and Leadership.
